Ashley has been an organizer of the V-Day Campaign since 2004 and has directed numerous productions of The Vagina Monologues and A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer. In 2006, she received the national LUNA Bar Award for Production Excellence of The Vagina Monologues

 

She is an alumna of BAM's Professional Development Program, Hemispheric Institute for Performance and Politics - EMERGENYC, American Theater Wing's Springboard NYC and member of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, Old Vic/New Voices and League of Professional Theatre Women.

EMBODI(ED)

EMBODI(ED) at HERE Arts Center

Embodi(ED) is a documentary theatre and dance piece about our country's feeding frenzy with body dysmorphia. Based on interviews with people of all ages and genders conducted by Girl Be Heard ensemble members, Embodi(ED) reveals the stories of countless people suffering from eating disorders and the dangerous economic investment that teaches us to hate our bodies.

At age 4, single mom Theresa Edwards was left by her father on the ice of Lake Quannapowitt. As her daughter is about to become a mother herself, three generations of single women parents must explore what it means to raise a child on your own terms.

Next to Normal tells the story of a mother struggling with bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness has on her family. This contemporary musical is an emotional powerhouse that address the issues of grief, loss, ethics in modern psychiatry and suburban life.

Trafficked tells the story sex slavery and child exploitation through the eyes of fifteen young women across the globe. In an ensemble devised performance constructed by interviews, research and media, the cast puts a name and face to the thousands of undocumented girls and boys who are trafficked into the billion dollar sex industry each year.

GirlPower: Survival of the Fittest is an empowering, ensemble-driven collection of words written and performed by teenagers, struggling with issues they face growing up in today's world. In deeply personal material based on real interviews and experiences, the young women explore topics such as peer pressure, body image, being an outcast, different, flawed, and full of dreams for the future. They share their perspectives on love, relationships, current events, the future and creating change.

PLANET CONNECTIONS THEATRE FESTIVITY

Set in late 1980s New York City, Decadent Acts chronicles the story of a lesbian couple struggling against legislated discrimination. When television personality Farah White falls fatally ill, her partner, professor Jolene Shatila, along with their daughter Nicole, are faced with unexpected challenges that will change their lives forever. From child custody laws, to hospital visitation rights, Decadent Acts spotlights the harsh reality of discriminatory regulations against same-sex partners, plunging emotional and political depths with grace and searing honesty.
